Who am I?
My name is Jamie Furlong, I'm 20 years old, and I have lived in Swansea all my life!
2 years ago, I began studying at the University of Southampton, an experience which has had its ups and its downs, but there is no denying it has left me with some memories I will never be able to forget, from spontaneously bursting into song in front of a lecture hall for charity, to almost setting the kitchen on fire by burning a kettle (totally not my fault)!
But this year is going to give me my most exciting memories yet. As part of my degree, I have to do a year abroad, and so I chose to do mine in Santiago, the capital city of Chile, a 24-hour flight away from my home which I am absolutely dreading! How the hell do you keep yourself entertained on a plane for that long, I might look into it in a future post, and explain what I eventually decided to do, but one thing is for sure and that is that I cannot sleep on aeroplanes, it hurts my back too much!
So this blog is to document my year. Through it, I hope to educate future study abroad students on the pros and cons of going to the vibrant city of Santiago, and to provide an insight of what it is like to live there, to experience its history, its culture, its food and so much more! So if you want to join me on this incredible experience, please look through the various articles I am going to write this year. I plan on updating this weekly, to share my year as much as possible, through written articles, images, and videos (the first of which is below just to introduce myself).
So please watch the video below, to find out more about the person I am, my reasons for choosing Chile, and hear me moan about the difficulty in organising such a trip!
Adiós!
